Our Mission, Values, and Strategy
Located in one of the fastest growing communities in Greater Kansas City, Northern Hills exists to passionately make disciples who seek Christ, serve people, and share the gospel, for His glory! We just can’t seem to get over the fact that the God of all creation saw us in our mess and did something about it. The Bible says that “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever would believe in Him would not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
We believe the Bible is God’s word. It is entirely true and trustworthy. We use it as our authority for everything we do. If you want to know more about some of the other things we believe, click here.
We find that the Bible calls us to share Christ’s love with the world. We do that in a number of ways. In fact, there are almost as many different ways of doing this as there are members. For a small sampling of some of the ways we do this, click on the “Gather” link located on the top right of your screen.
We also believe that the Bible calls us to experience and extend authentic community . Everyone is looking for a place to belong; someplace to call ‘home’. We believe that community is found in developing authentic relationships with other people who care about you enough to walk through life with you.
At Northern Hills, we’re not looking to attract people who have it all together. Jesus said “Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but those who are sick do” (Mark 2:17a). Rather, we welcome people who are looking for where they fit. For those who are wondering why they are here and what kind of purpose God has for their life.

- Christ-Centered Discipleship
Learning to live, love and lead like Jesus with a focus on the whole family to imitate Christ. (Joshua 24:15; Matt 4:19; John 15:12; 1 Cor 11:1; Gal 2:20; Eph 4:1; 5:1-2; 1 Pet 2:21; 1 John 2:6).
- Biblically Saturated Teaching
Biblically saturated teaching is teaching and preaching directly from the Scriptures. The Scriptures are both the Old and New Testaments, given to us by the Holy Spirit, through the Old and New Testament authors. Therefore, we boldly proclaim the authority of the Scriptures without apology. (Acts 2:42, Deut 33:10, Psalm 119, 2 Kings 22-23:1-3, Neh 8:1-8, Matt 28:19-20, Luke 1:4, Acts 20:27, Eph 2:20-21, Eph 4:11-14, 1 Tim 4:6-16, 2 Tim 3:16-17, Jude 1:3-4)
- Priority of Prayer
Prayer should be our number one priority in building an intimate relationship with Christ, our brothers, sisters, and nonbelievers. (Matt 18:20, 1 Tim 2:8, James 5:16, Matt 6:9, 1 Thess 5:17, Mark 11:24, Phil 4:6-7, Romans 12:12, John 14:13, John 15:16)
- God Glorifying Worship
Awe inspiring exaltation of God through corporate praise; honoring Him through our lives by showing love and compassion to others as Christ did. (Rom 12:1-7; Col. 3:14-17; Psalm 95:1-6; 1 Chron 16:29-34; 1 Cor 10:31)
- Authentic Relationships
Loving one another as Christ loves you. Being devoted in brotherly love with grace and unity. (Phil 2:3, Col 3:12-14, John 15:12-13, Psalms 133:1, Romans 12:10-16, Gal 6:2)
- Sacrificial Service
Imitating Christ as we empty ourselves to serve others (Heb 13:16, Phil 2:4-8, James 1:27, Gal 5:13)
- Grace-filled Joy
Living our Christian lives full of joy in response to the grace God lavishes on us. (1 Peter 1:3-9, James 1:2, John 10:10, Eph 2:4-10, Romans 15:13, 2 Cor 9:8)
- Advancing the Kingdom
Speaking the Gospel so we can reach our families, communities, and the world in order to make true disciples for the advancement of the kingdom and the salvation of the lost. (John 14:6, Matt 28:19-20, Romans 10:13-14, Psalm 96:3)
